Health isn’t a goal; it’s a way of living. Rooted in Motion, Anchored in Nutrition transforms the disused Haggerston Baths and Hoxton Docks into a net-positive ecosystem where the rhythms of the body align with the rituals of food, sport and community.
The design cultivates spaces for healthy nutrition, on-site planting, movement, and social connection. The proposal emerged from a detailed strategic analysis of the existing buildings and extensive community engagement. Together, these shaped an architectural, environmental, and structural reimagining of the site.
The structural challenge centred around integrating a series of new curved walls elements that not only provide support but enhance spatial flow. Environmental strategies ensure the entire site reaches net-positive performance, balancing heritage preservation with targeted retrofit interventions.
Physical model-making and material testing played a central role throughout the process, allowing for hands-on exploration of both construction and environmental performance.
Ultimately, the project curates spaces where the utopia of health is attained when rhythms of the body meet rituals of food and community.
