This project explores ideas of hydro-feminist theory and artistic practices. Following concealed waterways in south-east London to reveal the shifts in the tides of urban regeneration. Using the lens of water infrastructure to channel the impacts of these fluctuations on the communities that live and work there. Looking to historic industries as well as the current scenic studios practices to construct collective instruments which perform the changes in the sonic landscape of Surry Quays, Rotherhithe.
An experimental score to roughly guide the journey of the improvised performance, playing with traditional music notation as well as tidal forms and bodily connections to the instrument such as fullness of breath and intensity.
Initial introduction of the complete instrument onsite to experiment with potential means of mapping and interpreting the waterscape sonically, as well as testing potential framing for the filming of the performance.
PVC piping for plumbing presents the fluid infrastructures that connect our cities and well as bringing to the surface the hidden impacts of infrastructural changes on how we live and work in urban environments.
These stills present the connection of the performance and layers of the instrument to the changes of the site over the rising of the tide. This change in tide is used as a metaphor for the impacts of urban fluctuations and redevelopment.
